Product Details

The LightRider Western is ideal for western breeds, reining, cutting, shows, pleasure and trail.

Comes in quality DD Regular Leather black or tan with silver conchos, scalloped browband and cheeks, or black or dark brown Deluxe Beta Biothane with plaited horsehair browband

  • Stainless steel fittings for strength and longevity.
  • Soft webbing adjustable chinstrap that releases for comfort and reward.
  • The best looking bitless bridle - looks like a classy traditional bridle.

Unique Chinstrap: The purpose of the soft webbing chin strap is to help the noseband stay in place when pressure is applied to the reins - this keeps the noseband from twisting to give clear and direct communication.

When rein pressure is applied the chinstrap becomes snug but does not over-tighten due to the type of webbing used, so most of the pressure is on the top of the nose. This bridle is usually well accepted by sensitive horses as there is no poll pressure. The bridle can also be used like a straight sidepull by clipping the chinstrap and noseband rings together (recommended if your horse hasn't experienced a chinstrap before).

Benefits:

  • Padded noseband offers more comfort.
  • Biothane is easy to care for - simply sponge or wipe clean with water.
  • The noseband sits higher like a cavesson so doesn’t need to be tight, allowing the horses to eat and drink easily.
  • Multi purpose for leading too, or the lead ring and strap can be removed for ridden show classes. Also a great option for showing in lead line classes.

Sizes:

Cob (fits 13.2-14.3hh/137cm to 150cm).

Full (fits 15hh-17hh/152cm to 173cm).

Warmblood/draft (fits solid 17hh-18hh/164cm to 183cm) or smaller draft breeds.

These sizes are a general guide only – if your horse is on the border of a height, it's best to measure your horse and check the size and how to measure chart here.

I recommend you use scissor rein clips for easy change over to the lead ring (shown above) to enable groundwork/leading/lunging, or buy LightRider reins with clips included.

  2. Problems with crossunder bitless solved

Posted by Sue M. in FL, USA. on 13th Jul 2010

I received my bridle a couple of days ago. Let me say before I go any further that I am extremely impressed with the quality of this bridle!
Very well made. Substantial and it is very attractive. I got the western style.
I got my first chance to try it this morning. I had a couple problems with my TWH using the crossunder bitless bridle.

First Feather, would get very bracy at times would just kind of get a bit catatonic for a few moments. He would go fine at times and be very responsive but, when he decided he didn't want to do something he would just brace through it all.
I have been trying to get a nice light neck rein on him for quite awhile.
So I have been looking for a different alternative. I came across your bridle and thought maybe this was just the answer for Feather, and I. It works on a totally different concept. Well it is just what we have needed!!

We went for a short ride this morning and Feather never braced with me. He just neck reined beautifully. Never pulled on me or tried to push through the pressure, I guess actually because his head wasn't wrapped in pressure! He also had a very nice whoa.
We want to thank you for designing this great product! I was never going to ride in a bit again period so am very happy to find this alternative.
Let me add a note about the crossunder bridle. I had two other big powerful horses that I put in that bridle and they did great. So maybe it just isn't made for every horse. I'd like to think how they might have done in your bridle...........

We dearly love this bridle. Thanks again for creating this wonderful bridle for all of us.
