Bareback Pad Care Guide

Congratulations on purchasing a LightRider Bareback Pad.

To prolong the life of your Real Suede or Synthetic Bareback Pad please follow these care tips:

  1. If you want to keep your pad in tip-top shape, treat it on both sides with a product such as Scotchguard Fabric & Upholstery Protector - while not absolutely necessary it will help repel water and keep your pad from staining.

  2. Always use another saddle pad (preferably cotton or non-slip) under your bareback pad to reduce the need to clean the felt underside.

  3. If you don't use a saddle pad under the bareback pad you may want to clean it regularly with a pet hair remover to get rid of matted hair.

  4. When you do clean the felt underside use a pre-wash spray if it's really dirty, then a mild detergent and water.  Sponge it on and rinse off with warm water then leave it to dry in the shade or inside. Never machine wash or tumble dry the bareback pad.

  5. To clean the upper side the same process above applies to the synthetic suede pads but a real suede bareback pad is best cleaned with a suede brush or if there are deep stains and dirt, you can follow the advice in this Suede Cleaning video.

  7. To clean the biothane girth straps simply wipe them with a damp cloth.

  8. Always store your bareback pad in a rodent-free area as sweat may attract them to nibble on it!
