NEW! Now with iodine.

Carol Layton's HoofXtra mix is ideal for laminitis-prone or insulin-resistant (IR) horses.

Highly bioavailable mix with the minerals and vitamins that will benefit laminitic/overweight horses using proven premium sources.

2.9 kg pack - 5.5 months supply on the standard feeding rate for one horse,

4.9kg pack  - 9.3 months supply.

The *standard* trial feeding rate is 18 grams or a 1.2 metric tablespoon (slightly heaped tablespoon, best to weigh) for ponies under 300 kg, 1/2 tablespoon.

HoofXtra is ready to go as is, however, it is recommended you feed iodized salt to horses at the rate of 2 tablespoons per day or more in hot weather.

HoofXtra mix is ideal for horses where the intake is lacking copper, zinc, magnesium, and selenium.
The B vitamin biotin can help with insulin signalling and both pyridoxine and folic acid can assist with nitric oxide production for blood circulation, in particular, perfusion in the hooves.

HoofXtra can benefit horses who are either laminitis-prone or diagnosed as insulin resistant (IR), also known as Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) or chronic laminitis.

For more info on how HoofXtra can help, and what each mineral and vitamin does, read this post.

HoofXstra is a good supplement, but I add brewers yeast as well as the extra Vitamin B gives my horse a shiny coat.

Extra vitamin B.

I have all of my horses on a mineral supplement because of low levels of copper, magnesium and zinc in my pastures. I recently changed two of them onto HoofXtra because they were pre Cushing's and I wanted to reduce the amount of sugar and starch in their feed and increase their vitamin B intake. They are still working their way through the first packet so it is a little early to notice any change but they certainly find it palatable and I intend to keep using it.

Laminitis Rescue Mix

By: on 5 May 2017
I have been using Laminitis Rescue Mix for over 12 months now not just on my IR boy but on all 5 of my horses. I can truly say that this was the first summer that they didn't bleach out and I don't use rugs at all unless we have a few good days of heavy rains and storms. Their hoofs are getting stronger and growing faster. Six week trims have now become 3-4 at the most! And yes, they are all bare foot. It is now May 2017 and they have grown a thick coat of healthy hair which still shines in the sunshine. I am very happy with this mineral mix and would recommend it 100%.

This product seems to have worked well for my horse with EMS. His pain is much reduced and I have even been able to allow him some night grassing. I would recommend this product.

I am on my second order and give this to all my 5 horses not just my laminitis boy. Has improved hoof growth and coat condition in all.
